Reclaiming the Promise of Public Education…A Journey For Justice

We Are Reclaiming Our Public Schools: 60 Years After– Reclaiming the Promise of Public Education May 13, 2014

We are reclaiming our public schools. We demanding that the promise of Brown versus Board of Education be fulfilled. We are tired of being sick and tired. No longer will we allow patents and teachers to be pitted against each other. No longer will we allow our schools to be closed, our neighborhoods to be destabilized. No longer will we allow our children to be over-tested. No longer will we allow hard-school-based discipline policies to affect children of color! Zero Tolerance has to end. No longer will we allow the reckless standards of corporate education. And we will keep Public Education Public!

Today we came to the all the way from Philadelphia 60 Years After– Reclaiming the Promise of Public Education May 13, 2014

Today we came to the all the way from Philadelphia to tell the department of Justice and the Supreme Court that to close our schools is a violation of our rights. We do not have the resources. We do not have the staff. Textbooks are denied. There are no funds for paper. As American children we have a right to have the tools needed to secure a quality education. Sixty years ago, the Supreme Court affirmed this is our right! But somehow, the call to education us all was averted. It is time to go back so that we might secure a healthy future. America, Reclaim the Promise of Public Education. Let’s March together on this Journey For Justice!

Randi Weingarten and the Children Speak: 60 Years After– Reclaiming the Promise of Public Education May 13, 2014

America See Our Children, see all of our children. We know that as a nation, every time we think of education we think of our youth. Public Education serves all the young, equally. That is our charge, to nourish the children’s minds, bodies, and dreams. Sixty years ago, the Supreme Court affirmed the nation’s vision; we as Americans stand united and say loudly, “Separate is Not Equal!” Every child must be encouraged. The tools our young need must be furnished. Sixty years ago, we decided to work together, or at least most of us did. We were intent on providing the best for our youth. But those whose interest lied in privation stalled the mission. Indeed, privatizers took public education off the tracks. It is time to get back on the Equal Education train. Join Us and Reclaim the Promise of Public Education.

We are on a Journey For Justice. We will Reclaim the Promise of Excellent Public Education for all of our children. Our Young Deserve an equal Opportunity to Learn!

Aquila Griffin, Dyett High School, Chicago Student Denied Equal Education: 60 Years After– Reclaiming the Promise of Public Education May 13, 2014

Aquila Griffin, Dyett High School student shared how Chicago Public Schools slated her school for closure and how schools in low-income communities of color offer inferior education.
The protesters then marched to the Department of Justice to file Title VI complaints detailing the harm that corporate reform strategies have on schools and communities nationwide. Across the country, inequitable funding, mass school closures, charter expansion, over-testing and harsh discipline policies are undermining public education.
