Deborah W. Meier currently serves as the Chair of Save Our Schools Board. She taught in urban K-12 public schools for near fifty years. Deb founded public schools in East Harlem and Roxbury. She is also a Board member and Director of New Ventures at Mission Hill, on the Board at FaitrTest and Coalition of Essential Schools.
Christine E. Sleeter is Professor Emerita in the College of Professional Studies at California State University Monterey Bay. Her work focuses on anti-racist multicultural education, teacher education, and critical family histories.
Michael Klonsky, Ph.D. teaches in the College of Education at DePaul University in Chicago. He currently serves as the national director of the Small Schools Workshop.

Dr. Sherick Hughes is an Associate Professor and the Graduate Program Coordinator of the Cultural Studies and Literacies Program in the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His scholarship includes over 40 publications.
Amy Valens began her teaching career in Dayton public schools in 1968. She also authored two children’s books. In recent years, Amy has become better known as a Co-Director, Co-Producer of August To June.
Diane E. Levin, Ph.D. is Professor of Education at Wheelock College in Boston, Massachusetts where she has been training early childhood professionals for over twenty-five year. She is an accomplished Author who advocates for the youngest among us.
Jitu Brown married and father of one child, is the Education Organizer for the Kenwood Oakland Community Organization (KOCO). Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, Jitu has organized in the Kenwood Oakland neighborhood for over 17 years.
Nancy Carlsson Paige is Professor Emerita at Lesley University where she taught teachers for more than 30 years and was a founder of the University’s Center for Peaceable Schools. Nancy has written and spoken extensively.
Raynard Sanders hosts The New Orleans Imperative, the only weekly radio show that focuses on public education in New Orleans. Ray has over thirty years of experience in teaching, educational administration, and economic and community development.
Geralyn Bywater McLaughlin, M.Ed. is a founding teacher of the Mission Hill K-8 School. She serves as the Director of Defending the Early Years and Empowered by Play, which she also founded in 2009.
William Ayers, Distinguished Professor of Education and Senior University Scholar at the University of Illinois at Chicago (retired), is a member of the executive committee of the Faculty Senate and founder of both the Small Schools Workshop.
Bob, a lifelong Educator is also an Entrepreneur. Bob serves as the National Director for Save Our Schools. He is an active member of the Kenwood Oakland Community Organization and also the Journey For Justice 2 Alliance.

Since a better world will not happen overnight, there is nothing we can do that’s more likely to be part of the cure than to work on all fronts together, and nothing more likely to spread more disease than accepting the myth that this is a “crisis” of bad teaching rather than a broader crisis of democracy!
To teach is to reach inside and outside yourself…to embrace learning!
