While the Press may shape the conversation heard on most city streets, and surely the media molds the minds of the elite who never dare venture out into the neighborhoods. Behind the sound barriers society erects, real people speak. Occasionally, their words are placed in print. But even these cannot express the palpable pain that is the human experience. Nuance is narrow in a well-crafted narrative. To be understood, fears and tears, must be seen and heard. More significantly, nothing will change if we do not feel another person’s pain.
Throughout the nation we speak of school closures. Many think these are just. The official word is the schools slated for closing are “underutilized” or “underperforming.” The public believes what it reads. Reasons are many; the financial benefits of suspending disbelief are great. Fortunately, a few Journalists ask Are School Closings Discriminatory? Researchers also offer studies.
