Project Description
#OurMarch Sandra Khalifa Defends the Dream; in a reflection, a recitation meant to awaken a sleeping nation. Her prose are powerful, profound; they are the poetry of pain felt and released. In “My 2 Minutes #OurMarch #WeReady #WeComing” we hear the words of a Dream Defender who has come to realize a reality that escape the masses. Dreams never die. These are the Phoenix rising. They are you, me, we reaching for the stars and grabbing the light. May we listen, learn to look, and be authentic Dreamers, those who think nothing is impossible and act to make change.
Sandra Khalifa· reads her dream.
Fifty years ago yesterday hundreds of people stood on the National Mall and the people rose up and said “your dream is our dream and we want it.” Eight years ago today thousands of Black bodies had their bodies washed away into the streets of New Orleans, into the depths of the Gulf into the ocean and the whole country stood by and watched. Some people said, “Your pain is my pain.” “Your dreams are gone like my dreams.” Some said, “I know what it is like to lose everything.” But many said “Your dreams mean nothing to me.”
I do not think Dreams die. Dreams deferred, yes. Quiet dreams those are real. Silent dreams that echo in the chamber of our minds ricocheting so hard it hurts because there is nowhere for them to go… Our generation has those dreams. I know there are armies of people who look like me, feel like me, laugh like me, cry like me, hurt like me, who like me turned the hatred of generations and generations inward and started to hate themselves because they knew no better….But something is happening in America today. …There is an ancient beast waking from the longest nightmare in history!…
We are a multi-headed mythological giant – a beautiful Medusa; and while you will try to chop off one of our heads, you will only find ten more sprout in its place. We don’t die. We are raisins in the sun waiting to explode. Our light will be beautiful. Just wait. We coming.
As only Sandra Khalifa can say…”this is….
