Studies show that students born or raised in affluent families are more likely to succeed. From day one, an infant exposed to finer books, art, music, and language begins to bloom. The widening academic achievement gap between the rich and the poor is undeniable. Race, in the last fifty years, does not seem to be a factor in the disparity, if it ever was. Income Inequality is the issue.

The impoverished child is exposed to far less. A poor child has farer fewer opportunities for cognitive development. Researchers have come to believe that perhaps, a parent’s education does not play a role. Investment in education makes a profound difference. Yet, as a society we do nothing to endow education. Instead, we cut funds for our schools and the students they serve.

Austerity has become our national priority. Our progeny? The forecast is bleak. “With income declines more severe in the lower brackets, there’s a good chance the recession may have widened the gap,” Professor Reardon said. The Poor get poorer as recession threat looms

The rich become richer and receive a richer education. The poor are left to fend for themselves, and/ or are left behind.
